Previous studies on the effect of fashion therapy have been conducted with psychiatric patients; however, this study explores the effects in fashion therapy for women with non-pathological problems. Previous studies did show if the effect of fashion therapy could be maintained continuously; therefore, we intend to examine the existence of the long-term effects of fashion therapy in an empirical manner and provide implications for social and public interest. This study used a qualitative approach to investigate the effects of fashion therapy with the following results. Low self-esteem, negative emotions, and rigid thinking symptoms appeared by numerous stress factors, and various changes were made through fashion therapy. Emotional changes such as positive emotions and feeling of achievement, and psychological changes including self-concept formation, change of sight and self-esteem improvement appeared. Sociological and behavioral changes were also identified. We found the maintained and long term effects of fashion therapy; therefore, study provides academic implications to reconsider the social value of fashion.

2Environmentally Responsible Apparel Consumption and Convertible Dresses

Among the many methods to make sustainable garments, convertible garments have the potential to change style and function that allow consumers to keep and use garments longer with the possibility of enhancing sustainability. This research analyzes consumer preferences in changeable design options for convertible dresses and the consumers' influence on environmentally responsible apparel consumption (ERC) behaviors on their preferences regarding changeable design options of dresses, which are popular items. An online survey collected data from a convenient sample of 321 female college students from four universities in the United States. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS through descriptive analysis, cluster analysis, and independent samples t-test. There were significant differences between high and low ERC groups in design preferences that considered important aspects of purchasing, using convertible dresses, and purchase intentions. Detailed differences among sub-groups were analyzed. Designers are encouraged to make tying/folding/wrapping dresses with changes of size/fit, dress length, or color/pattern. The results are beneficial for apparel designers when developing convertible dresses with the guidance of consumers' design preferences and differences according to ERC levels.

This study analyzes the trends of recommendation services for customized fashion styles in relation to artificial intelligence. To achieve this goal, the study examined filtering technologies of collaborative, content based, and deep-learning as well as analyzed the characteristics of recommendation services in the users' purchasing process. The results of this study showed that the most universal recommendation technology is collaborative filtering. Collaborative filtering was shown to allow intuitive searching of similar fashion styles in the cognition of need stage, and appeared to be useful in comparing prices but not suitable for innovative customers who pursue early trends. Second, content based filtering was shown to utilize body shape as a key personal profile item in order to reduce the possibility of failure when selecting sizes online, which has limits to being able to wear the product beforehand. Third, fashion style recommendations applied with deep-learning intervene with all user processes of buying products online that was also confirmed to penetrate into the creative area of image tag services, virtual reality services, clothes wearing fit evaluation services, and individually customized design services.

This study investigates the problems of fitness and motion suitability for Korean female military winter jackets (inner and outer) and provides data for new pattern development. We analyzed fitness and motion suitability by a questionnaire survey with 39 Korean female soldiers and a wearing evaluation with 8 subjects of the female soldeier's center size. The results of the study are as follows. 1. In the survey result on the fitness with female soldiers, fit of collar showed a score lower than 3.0 for the inner jacket and front interscye breadth, chest circumference, collar height on the outer jacket. The result on the motion suitability showed that both the inner jacket and the outer jacket were above 3.0 (moderate), indicating that the dissatisfactory factors were not large. 2. The wearing evaluation results with the subjects of central army female size, discomfort factor derived the chest circumference, neck circumference, item of the hem circumference and collar height on the outer jacket. This study is meaningful in evaluating the current military winter jacket of female soldiers and it is expected to be used as a basic data for future pattern improvement of military winter jacket for female soldiers.

This research investigated the effect of individual yarn colors on the perception of overall colors of yarn-dyed woven fabrics. The way the colors of yarn-dyed woven fabrics are perceived is known as visual color mixing: when the different colored yarns juxtaposed on the fabric surface are observed from some distance away, they are visually mixed in our eyes and perceived as a solid color. However, we can still see individual yarn colors that make the fabrics look obviously different from actual solid colors. To quantify this visual color mixing effect, twenty-one sateen fabrics were produced in a wide range of colors using cyan, magenta, and yellow yarns, and the colors were measured instrumentally. The obtained colorimetric values were converted into solid color images on a CRT monitor. Then, the physical fabrics were scanned, and the scanned images were displayed on the monitor with solid color images in pairs for visual color difference evaluation. The woven and solid colors in each pair were of physically identical color; however, the visual color difference was as large as 4.81 ΔE*ab on average. A visual color difference model was proposed by considering this parametric effect of individual yarn colors.

This study investigates the multidimensional structure of apparel design evaluation criteria and the details of each criterion by exploring how female college students majoring in apparel design in their 20s evaluate apparel design based on an exploratory approach. Data were analyzed through a categorization method of qualitative data after collecting from a literature review and three focus group interviews. The results identified the six evaluation criteria of apparel design (functional usefulness, convenience, aesthetics, psychological self suitability, social activity usefulness, and fashion trend). Functional usefulness and convenience assessed the extent to which primary features of apparel are reflected in apparel design, and aesthetics evaluated the aesthetic beauty of apparel design. Psychological self suitability estimated the extent to which apparel design expressed psychological self properly, and social activity usefulness appraised the extent to which apparel design contributed to the social activities of wearers. Last, fashion trend assessed the extent to which apparel design reflected fashion trend. The study results provide meaningful implications towards an apparel industry that wants to develop apparel design that appeals to consumers, educational institutions that aim to cultivate well-trained professionals in the apparel industry, and consumers who want to purchase clothes of satisfactory design.

This study examined the physiological and psychological effects of wearing a winter cap at rest in a cold environment. Seven older males participated in two separate trials: wearing a winter cap (CAP) and non-wearing a winter cap (CON). The experiment was conducted for 60 min in a climatic chamber (air temperature 7.8±0.3℃ with 43±2%RH) with sedentary posture. Microclimate temperature at the vertex of the head was 6.88℃ higher in CAP compared to CON (p<.01). Microclimate humidity at the vertex was lower in CAP than in CON only during the last 5 min (p<.01). Skin temperature at the forehead in CAP was higher than in CON (p<.01). During the last 5 min, rectal temperature was higher in CAP than that in CON (p<.05). Unlike CAP, the heart rate in CON during the last 5 min decreased significantly compared to the initial 5 min (p<.05). Subjects also felt less cold on the head/face in CAP than that in CON (p<.01). The results indicate that wearing a cap for elderly males positively affected body temperature regulation and cardiovascular response in cold environments. The importance of wearing warm hats for elderly males in winter should be emphasized.

This study measured and analyzed male firefighters hand sizes as well as suggested data for developing firefighting gloves with a good fit. Accordingly, body dimensions related to the hand were measured for 100 male firefighters. Twenty-three measuring items related to the hand and lower arm were selected. The firefighters' measurement data were compared to general adult male measurements from the 6th Korean Anthropometric data to analyze the hand sizes characteristics of firefighters. As a result, height, hand circumference, hand breadth, wrist circumference, elbow-wrist length, forearm-fingertip length and firefighter weight were significantly larger than adult males. A correlation analysis for 23 items was conducted to select items used as standards for setting a size when manufacturing firefighting gloves. Hand length and circumference were selected as representative hand parts for making firefighting gloves. Cross analysis between hand length and circumference were conducted to find the section showing the highest distribution ratio. As a result, the highest sections were between 19cm and 21cm for hand circumference and between 18.5cm and 19.5cm for hand length, which may be suggested as the most important ranges.

This study investigated the semantic network based on the focus of the fashion image and SNS text utilized by global SPA brands on the last seven years in terms of the quantity and quality of data generated by the fast-changing fashion trends and fashion content-based media environment. The research method relocated frequency, density and repetitive key words as well as visualized algorithms using the UCINET 6.347 program and the overall classification of the text related to fashion images on social networks used by global SPA brands. The conclusions of the study are as follows. A common aspect of global SPA brands is that by looking at the basis of text extraction on SNS, exposure through image of products is considered important for sales. The following is a discriminatory aspect of global SPA brands. First, ZARA consistently exposes marketing using a variety of professions and nationalities to SNS. Second, UNIQLO's correlation exposes its collaboration promotion to SNS while steadily exposing basic items. Third, in the case of H&M, some discriminatory results were found with other brands in connectivity with each cluster category that showed remarkably independent results.

Based on a 3D body data and pattern comparison analysis, this study developed a formal jacket pattern for men in their late 30s. In order to select the representative type of men in their late 30s, factor analysis and cluster analysis were conducted on data form 319 men, 35 to 39 years old using the anthropometric data from The 7th Size Korea (2015) as the representative body type. The surface of the body surface was developed using a 3D human shape of a male in his 30s in The 6th Size Korea (2010). Then the shape was changed to a flat pattern that confirmed the necessary elements for setting the shape and dimension. Cluster analysis revealed type B as the representative type because it showed the best shape characteristics for men in the late 30s. The drafting method of the final research pattern is as follows. Jacket length: stature/2.5cm, back length: stature/5+8.5cm (constant)], armhole depth: [stature/7-1.5cm (constant)], back width: [C/9+9.5cm (constant)]+1cm (ease), front width: [C/9+8.5cm (constant)]+1cm (ease), armscye depth: C/8, front waist darts: 1cm, front closure amount: 2cm.
