This study was carried out to investigate the effect of hot forging ratio and solution treatment temperature on the mechanical properties of incoloy 825 alloy. With an increasing of the hot forging ratio, grain size and range of grain size was decreased. With an increasing of the solution treatment temperature after 90% forging, grain size and range of grain size was increased. Cr carbides and Ti nitrides was precipitated at below 900℃ and volume fraction of precipitate was increased with an decreasing of the solution treatment temperature. With an increasing of the hot forging ratio, hardness, tensile strength and elongation, toughness was increased. With an increasing of the solution treatment temperature after 90% forging, hardness and strength was increased, elongation and toughness was decreased by grain refinement. With an increasing of the forging ratio, effect of solution treatment temperature on the hardness, strength and elongation was small, but on the toughness was large. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of solution treatment on the microstructure and corrosion behavior of cast AZ91-4%RE magnesium alloy. In the as-cast state, microstructure of the AZ91-4%RE alloy was characterized by intermetallic β(Mg17Al12), Al11RE3 and Al2RE phase particles distributed in α-(Mg) matrix. After solution treatment, the β particles with low melting point dissolved into the matrix, but Al-RE phases still remained due to their high thermal stabilities. It was found from the immersion and potentiodynamic polarization tests that corrosion rate of the AZ91-4%RE alloy increased after the solution treatment. On the contrary, EIS tests and EDS compositional analyses on the surface corrosion products indicated that the stability of the corrosion product was improved after the solution treatment. Examinations on the corroded microstructures for the ascast and solution-treated samples revealed that dissolution of the β particles which play a beneficial role in suppressing corrosion propagation, would be responsible for the deterioration of corrosion resistance after the solution treatment. This result implies that the microstructural features such as amount, size and distribution of secondary phases that determine corrosion mechanism, are more influential on the corrosion rate in comparison with the stability of surface corrosion product. The purpose of this study was to investigate the microstructural characteristics and hardness distribution of AZ91 magnesium alloy furnace-cooled to room temperature after solution treatment, and to compare the results with those of as-cast condition. The as-cast alloy showed a partially divorced eutectic β(Mg17Al12) phase and discontinuous precipitates (DPs) with a lamellar morphology, while only DPs were observed in the furnacecooled alloy. The DPs in the furnace-cooled AZ91 alloy had various apparent interlamellar spacings, which would be ascribed to the different transformation temperatures during the furnace cooling. The average hardness for the furnace-cooled alloy is similar to that for the as-cast alloy. It is interesting to note that the hardness values of the furnace-cooled alloy were distributed over a narrower range than those of the as-cast alloy. This is likely to be caused by the relatively more homogeneous microstructure of the furnace-cooled alloy in comparison with the ascast one. In-rich InGaN epilayers were grown on (0001) sapphire substrates by radio-frequency plasmaassisted molecular beam epitaxy (RF-MBE). InGaN epilayers grown at various growth condition were observed by SEM, XRD, and RHEED. When plasma power of nitrogen increased from 290 to 350 W, surface morphology and crystal quality became worse according to more active nitrogen on the surface of InGaN at N-rich growth condition. As In composition was reduced from 89 to 71% by changing the incoming flux of In and Ga, surface morphology and crystal quality became worse. In addition, weak peaks of cubic InGaN phase was observed from InGaN layer with 71% In composition by XRD Φ scan measurement. When growth temperature decreased from 500 to 400℃, RHEED diffraction pattern was changed to be from streaky to spotty which means atomically rough surface, and spotty pattern showed cubic symmetry of InGaN clearly. XRD Φ scan measurement gave clear evidence that more cubic InGaN phase was formed at low growth temperature. All these results indicates that extremely low surface mobility of Ga adatom caused inferior crystal quality and cubic InGaN phase.
