This study examines the functions of meta-language and meanings of Korean in activating the relationship between Korean language learners and English teachers in the process of learning about globalization. As a special case, when a professor who uses English as a first language lectures to a student who uses Korean as a first language, he / she learns Korean for the purpose of improving the achievement of the lecture. It serves as a special mediator for class achievement. Therefore, as a special language need for Korean is on the rise, it is possible to use Korean as an additional function for accomplishing its class as an English professor besides Korean objectivity. This can be seen as an extension of the meaning of Korean language education in that Korean is used as a tool for the achievement of the occupation of English users in addition to the need for Korean purpose. The learning motivation of learners who learn Korean as a foreign professor at university is special. First, it is assumed that the achievement of the target language can be improved when the teacher uses the learner's native language, Korean, as a communicative language in his / her class, in the interrelationship between the English - speaking instructor and the learner with the native language of Korean. The learner who speaks Korean as their mother tongue has the emotional intimacy with the teacher when they use the Korean even though it is a short sentence in the class during the lesson. And the Korean learner, the professor, could use the goal of activating the class atmosphere in the special professional environment as a new learning motive. Therefore, we examined the mutual psychological reaction of the learner's learner's theories of the native language, and accordingly the instructor who uses the Korean learner and the native speaker of the Korean language. This discussion is a new observation and application of Korean learning motivation. It is a consideration of the mediating characteristics of Korean language, and it is worth contributing to the activation of Korean language education as a new function and meaning of Korean language. Korean-Chinese university students in Yanbian, China are mostly trilingual: Their first language (L1) is Korean, L2 is Mandarin, and L3 is English. They acquire L2 in elementary school and L3 in middle school through L2. L1 is spoken at home and local community while L2 is required in school and public settings. Using the long-term cross-language repetition priming paradigm, three experiments were conducted to study lexical representation and processing in Korean-Mandarin-English triliguals. Each experiment was composed of priming and test session. In priming session, participants judged whether a stimulus word on the screen was animate or inanimate. In test session, the same participants were asked to judge whether a stimulus letter or character string constituted a legitimate word or not. In Experiment 1, prior semantic access to Mandarin primes did not affect the lexical decision of Korean translation equivalents. In Experiment 2, English primes facilitated the recognition of Mandarin translation equivalents, but did not affect the lexical decision of Korean translation equivalents. In Experiment 3, Mandarin primes had no influence on the processing of English translation equivalents. The results suggest that L2 plays a powerful role in Korean trilinguals in Yanbian, reflecting the L2 dominant environment in the region, and that language proficiency and environment should be considered to understand lexical representation and processing of trilinguals. The purpose of this research is to design evaluation criteria for argumentive writing which is crucial for the future Korean learners with academic purposes who are aiming to enroll for universities. After enrolling to universities, the future Korean learners will have to compose demonstrative papers, such as reports, essays, and thesis. However, they greatly struggle without knowledge on the argumentive writing. In this research paper, we firstly analyzed studies for necessary components from excellent demonstrative literatures. Then, we divided the components into 'content', 'composition of writing' and 'expression'. With the categories, we examined whether the components are reflected from 19 essays written by the actual future Korean learners with academic purposes. The result from the 'content' category indicated that sufficiency, which checks if the reasoning is quantitatively and qualitatively suffice, was lacking the most. Cohesion, which checks if the paragraphs are well separated and logically connected, was lacking the most from the 'genre' category. This result would be helpful for teaching argumentive writing for the future Korean learners with academic purposes. (Ewha Womans University)

The purpose of this study is to confirm the roles of video in listening test and to measure visual factors influencing listening comprehension by its degree of proficiency. This study conducted two different types of tests: audio only test and audiovisual test were performed on 31 learners. The result showed that learners in audiovisual test had performed better in Korean listening comprehension assessment and it had statistically meaningful difference. As a result of investigation on visual factors which are helpful in listening understanding, it was verified that situation and psychological factors ranked high, but speaker related factors were verified in low ranking. More Specifically, it was found that both the listening situation and the learner's psychological status were helpful for listening comprehension, whereas mouth shape, facial expression and gesture had limited impact. Based on these results, the concept of Korean listening ability was broadly defined including ability to use visual cues throughout this thesis. (Korea University)

This Study is about Korean conditional connective endings. Conditional relations are semantic relations that appear in all languages, and there are grammatical means of expressing them. The Korean connective endings have a very complex function of expressing the feelings such as the wishes, hopes and suspicions of the speaker when looking at the functions and events of connecting events. However, the grammatical form of expressing it varies from language to language, and the Korean language has conditional connective endings that show detailed meaning differences, making it difficult for learners to fully understand and use the meaning of the conjunctive. This study aims to summarize the semantic relations and the characteristics of individual connective endings based on the existing discussion on conditional connective endings. In addition, I want to extract the connective endings in Korean textbooks and analyze the order of presentation. Finally, I will arrange connective endings based on semantic marked. This Study will summarize these discussions and conclude with suggestions for Korean connection endings education. (Kyunghee University)

This study aims to investigate learners' perception regarding teacher's use of learners' L1 as the instructional language in the American higher education KFL classroom in order to provide insight for using L1(English) and L2(Korean) in American college setting. 36 respondents of undergraduate KFL learners (beginner level) participated in the online survey for this study. The questionnaire is consisted of five categories that are (1) learners' preference on teacher's use of instructional language, (2) learners' feeling on effect of learning, (3) judicious and optimal use of learners L1 by a teacher, (4) learners' habitual translation toward target language and (5) open question on free opinion. The result showed that most of respondents expected a KFL teacher delivering a course in their L1 although they expressed no clear-cut preference on instructional language between L1 and L2. Moreover, learners felt effective of L1 in all the linguistic functions such as speaking, listening, reading and writing while they showed a strong efficacy on oral practices by L2. The norm for judicious and optimal use of L1 still remained unclear, but the function of L1 as cognitive tools for KFL learners would arouse more judicious insight on teacher's use of learners' L1 in the KFL classroom. Unfamiliar pronunciation and accent, fast verbal speed, difficult vocabulary and grammar, and the lack of pragmatic information hinder listening comprehension of Korean language learners. But it is not only due to the lack of linguistic knowledge that makes listening difficult. Affective Factors, Cognitive Factors, and Contextual Factors are also significant for listening comprehension. What are the factors other than the linguistic factors that influence listening comprehension of Chinese Korean learners? This study examined which factors influence listening comprehension and listening self-efficacy, respectively. As a result, listening self-efficacy and listening exposure time were statistically significant variables affecting listening comprehension. In addition, it was found that cognitive strategies and listening anxiety were also important key factors affecting listening self-efficacy. MBTI personality type had no effect on listening comprehension. On the other hand, Listening self-efficacy showed significant difference between S(sensing) group and N(intuition) group while listening anxiety showed difference between T(thinking) group and F(feeling) group. From this study, it was found that listening education, which usually concentrate only on the detailed contents of the vocabulary grammar center, should be changed in order to improve the listening ability. Adult language learners have strong beliefs or opinions regarding to language learning that based on their previous experiences or assumptions which methods are the best to learn a language. These beliefs could cause anxiety about language teaching in the classroom and disturb their language learning. In this study, the beliefs about language learning of the Korean teachers and Chinese students are investigated and analyzed to find out the differences and to reduce them by classroom tuning for the efficient teaching and learning. Teachers believe that Korean is difficult to learn, and they do not sure of students' abilities. And students believe learning grammar rules significantly than teachers, so this kind of inconsistence may cause tension in communicative classrooms. They also showed more instrumental motivations than integrative motivations. And both groups believe that language acquisition is linear and structural process and ignore the creativeness of learners. These results showed much lack of knowledge on second language acquisition. For classroom tuning, teachers have to be trained by knowledge on language acquisition, and learners must be realized improper learning methods by guidance of teachers. The purpose of this thesis is to find out the variation trends that aim for the objects, Chinese Korean language learners. It uses research-tendency analysis in Korean-language education, among the Korean academic community. The research object is a collection of academic papers' titles published in Korea within a certain annual range. The method of this research is based on the text mining analysis whose objects are academic papers' titles of keywords. Afterward, it analyzes the co-occurance words. Moreover, through the social network map, it finds out the research development trends. Research trend analysis is extensively used in the study of Korean language education. However, this kind of thesis, which uses research trend analysis for the specific objects, Chinese Korean language learners, has rarely been published. This study is based on statistical analysis. In addition, it analyzes the relationship between the number of papers and the number of Chinese students. Furthermore, the study uses R as a statistical tool for the analysis of the co-occurance words. It imports the results into Pajek and then makes into a social network map. This thesis uses text mining to analyze the trends of the research topics. Consequently, it finds out the differences in the research trends of academic papers in three different stages in the field of Korean language education for Chinese Korean language learners.
