Despite the rising demand of logistics services especially due to rapid growth of e-commerce market, logistics facilities to satisfy such demand are not sufficient especially in the urban areas. On the other hand, the idle facilities and sites of the public organizations are increasing with the change of socio-economic environment. This study aims to provide a systematic framework for developing sustainable logistics facilities using public idle sites in harmony with the local economy, industry, and urban planning. The logistics facility development is categorized in terms of locations (urban, sea port, and industrial complex) and size (large, medium, and small). For each facility category we elaborated the facility development procedures including hot spot detection of freight demand clusters by commodity and evaluating the needs of the shippers in consideration with regional industry, transportation infrastructure, land use, and the local community environment.

Yeosu·Gwangyang port is considered as the 5th major port in Korea with Busan port, Incheon port, Ulsan port, and Pyeongtaek·Dangjin port. With handling oil, ore, coal, and containers as the main items, the overall throughput of Yeosu·Gwangyang port has increased steadily. Yeosu·Gwangyang port has been propelling various strategies such as the renovation of old terminals, rearrangement of container berths, and establishment of transportation network to strengthen the port competitiveness. However, in the past 5 years, Yeosu·Gwangyang port has the highest ship congestion rate among the 5 major ports in Korea. It indicated that there is an inefficient operation due to the facility or technology inadequate in Yeosu·Gwangyang port. Previous studies have mainly focused on deriving development strategies for Yeosu·Gwangyang port. The studies that have analyzed the operational efficiency of Yeosu·Gwangyang port are insufficient. Therefore, in this study, to evaluate the port operation efficiency of Yeosu·Gwangyang port, a group of competing ports was compared and analyzed by Entropy-DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) model. The competing ports were selected based on four major handling items (oil, ore, coal, and container) at Yeosu·Gwangyang port. According to the results, Yeosu·Gwangyang port had the best efficiency on oil terminal operating. The ore terminal, coal terminal, and container terminal showed inefficient results. In particular, it was analyzed that the efficiency of the container terminal was the worst. It is necessary to establish strategies such as promotion of automation for container terminals and marketing in consideration of regional characteristics. This study diagnosed the operation status of Yeosu·Gwangyang port and could be utilized as a reference for establishing the development strategies for Yeosu·Gwangyang port.

Casting is a method of making metal through molds by changing solid metal into liquid state, which has the advantage of being able to yield a large number of products with complex shapes. Owing to the advantage, it is widely used to manufacture jewelry, artwork, surgical implants, and impellers in automobiles and ships. However, low quality products can be produced due to pinholes, sand blows, shrinkage cavities, and cracks that are well-known issues in casting. Especially using a defective impeller, a rotating element of a centrifugal pump that accelerates fluid outside from the center and transfers the power of fluid kinetic energy, causes a significant damage to its pump and/or workers nearby due to its high pressure. Therefore, foundries endeavor to catch any defectives before sending them out to purchasers. However, foundries are usually small or medium-sized enterprises. It is difficult for them to hire additional experienced workers to catch more defectives or install photographing and imaging-storing devices to keep track of a large amount of product images for analyses. The foundries usually have a few inspectors to catch defective products and, due to a shortage of manpower and human inaccuracy, defective products are often classified as non-defective products. This study shows that a combination of classic augmentation and self-attention generative adversarial network improves the accuracy of classifying non-defective and defective impellers by augmenting a limited amount of image data that can be even manually photographed. Combining classic augmentation and self-attention generative adversarial network outperforms the sole use of classic augmentation in generating quality images for convolutional neural network.

As the competition among firms has become more intensive, risk drivers in the supply chain have also become more diverse, emphasizing the need to apply effective control mechanisms according to supplier importance. Based on contingency and agency theories, this study intended to empirically investigate the effect of monitoring as an ex-post control mechanism on buyer's performance according to the degree of supplier's importance and the types of monitoring. We use a random sample of 479 manufacturing firms collected from the Korea Productivity Center. Our results show that buyer can effectively control supplier through process monitoring as supply chain risk increases. The results provide theoretical and practical insights on monitoring according to a degree of supplier's importance under supply chain risk.

This paper aims to identify the priorities of the factors for determining the competitiveness of the Airport Economic Zone. To evaluate the relative importance of the factors, the AHP(analytical hierarchy process) based on expert surveys is used. The four decision factors that make up the Airport Economic Zone competitiveness analysis model were set to 'Factor conditions', 'Demand conditions', 'The related and supportive companies', 'Management strategies and competition systems'. 'Human·Physical resources' and 'Logistics·Transportation infrastructure' were selected as sub-components of the 'Factor conditions', and 'Business demand' and 'Tourism·Logistics demand' were selected as sub-components of the 'Demand conditions'. 'Core Industry Development Level' and 'Support facility status' were selected as sub-components of 'The related and supportive companies', and 'Management strategies' and 'Competitiveness in the hinterland' were selected as sub-components of 'Management strategies and competition systems'. The competitiveness analysis model derived from this study is applicable to other Airport Economic Zones. Therefore, it is believed that implementing a comparative analysis with other Airport Economic Zone based on the analysis model presented in this study could lead to additional implications for the competitive determinants of the Airport Economic Zone.
