This study presents the educational utility of blended learning by analyzing the effectiveness of learning after class by blending team project learning and smart device app-based learning methods. Qualitative analysis and survey analysis were conducted and the results were as follows. First, team project activities based on task resolution were conducted freely through detailed activities such as sharing roles, planning meetings, and coordinating opinions. Team activities were carried out with respect and consideration, team member bonding, and a sense of responsibility. Second, the smart device app is recognized as a medium for work and communication, and fast feedback has been made, making it highly impactful on classroom activities. Third, in terms of learning satisfaction, most learners showed an interest in the course and were satisfied with the project results. The smart device app was used as a learning and communication medium for personal and team activities and was analyzed as a blended method applicable to classes that conduct practical activities as an efficient tool to further activate project activities.

In addition to direct sales to consumers, the direct-to-consumers (D2C) strategy, which provides specialized experiences and services, communicates closely with a consumer's perspective. This tendency is related to the recent trend wherein the luxury fashion system is being transformed into a new luxury. Therefore, this study analyzes the development of online D2C platforms and investigates the characteristics of new luxury from the functional, symbolic, and experiential dimension perspectives based on mobile apps, which is becoming increasingly important among online D2C platforms. Based on the study results, the premium of new luxury fashion displayed in Louis Vuitton's mobile D2C platform in terms of product utility and functionality is newly defined as a usable luxury experience. Moreover, from the heritage perspective, based on the cultural sympathy of the brand contents, we determine that an attachment can be formed between new luxury fashion consumers and brands. Additionally, the personalization service and experiential content on the D2C platform can directly afford emotional and bonding induced brand immersion in a playful way.

Today, functional gloves must allow the wearer to perform many kinds of delicate work while protecting the hands from hazardous materials. In this study, multiple analyses of 3D hand measurements were performed to provide information on the hand size and shape required for the design of functional gloves for adult men. Size and shape characteristics were identified from 19 different hand measurements, and three factors were collected through factor analysis. The aggregated factor score was used to classify men's hand shapes into three types. These types showed different distribution patterns according to age, indicating a significant distribution difference between hand type and age group. Discriminant analysis extracted nine items that highly contributed to determining hand type. However, since the data provided by Size Korea have some limitations in fully representing hand shape, sampling additional types of hand measurements and using consistent conditions and methods are required for more accurate analysis.

This study examines the types of cotton, silk, and woollen products imported from Japan during the portopening period and explores the characteristics of import trade related to these textile products. Data were obtained from the Japanese trade statistics published by the Japanese government between the late 19th and the early 20th centuries. Several key findings were made from these data. First, at least 24 types of cotton fabrics, 13 silk fabrics, and 16 woollen fabrics imported from Japan were identified. Several types of weaves that can be found in the present day were also identified. Second, the total import of textiles during the port-opening period made up 33.7% of the total imports from Japan, indicating that textiles were an important aspect of import trade with Japan. The value of textile imports from Japan tended to increase overall during this time. Cotton fabrics and silk fabrics showed a tendency to increase continuously, while woollen fabrics showed a trend of gradual increase over repeating periods of increase and decrease. It is apparent from examining the ratio of Japanese and foreign products that cotton fabrics, silk fabrics, and woollen fabrics show different characteristics.

This study aims to obtain basic data to develop clothes for dementia patients by classifying types of dementia patients. Data was collected from those dementia patients who entered a nursing home. This study analyzed a total of 221 sheets. Furthermore, descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation, and K-means clustering were performed for statistical processing using Minitab 14. As a result, dementia patients were classified into four types: inactive-dependent, active-problematic behavior, activity-autonomy, and inactive-offensive. Inactive-dependent type was a group with the most severe disability in cognitive and daily activity functions; however, they lacked behavioral and psychological symptoms and problematic behavior with clothes. Active-problematic behavior type showed the most behavioral and psychological problems and problematic behavior with clothes. Activity-autonomy type was a group without any problematic behaviors. Moreover, the inactive-offensive type had very good cognitive function toward humans. The study imply that it is necessary to provide clothes with proper functions based on the types of patients rather than providing them uniform clothes because clinical and clothes behaviors differ significantly depending on the types of dementia patients.

This study qualitatively explored the case of users utilizing multiple accounts on one social network service to create their own multiple spaces and different personas. The purpose of the study was to understand the behavior of people who use multiple accounts to express their identity online using Carl Jung's personality theory. We used in-depth interviews and the Zaltman metaphor elicitation technique (ZMET), targeting 19 people in their 20s and 30s who use more than one personal account on Instagram. Creating a shared consensus map using the configuration concept of ZMET derived six personas in relation to Instagram accounts. The motivations for the respondents' self-presentation associated with their personas and self-presentation types shown on Instagram were analyzed in terms of persona and fashion and subdivided into five dimensions: relationship management strategic presentation, self-monitoring presentation, competence demonstration presentation, anonymous presentation, and persona-centered presentation. Each respondent's persona and self-presentation formed by the Instagram account was analyzed.

This study aims to develop jacquard fashion masks using traditional patterns and investigates the preference and emotions of consumers for them. Nine patterns were designed with the motifs of plum flower, turtle, and geometric patterns using an Adobe Illustrator program. After that, 20 kinds of jacquard fabrics were developed using those patterns, and prototype masks were made. Furthermore, data were collected using a survey of 231 adult consumers to understand the emotional images evoked by jacquard fashion masks with traditional patterns. The results of the research show that the emotional dimension derived from jacquard fashion masks with traditional patterns consists of seven factors: luxurious image, frugal image, feminine image, oriental image, sporty image, geometrical image, generous image. We found that consumers preferred the M6 with the plum flower pattern as the motif as the most preferred design, while M13 with the geometric pattern as the motif was the lowest preferred.

In this study, we used a chemiluminescence reaction to investigate the removal effect of pet soil, such as dog blood, urine and feces. The soiled fabrics were washed with a standard laundry course of 30°C and a washing time of 30 min and a pet care laundry course of 40-60°C and a washing time of 100 min. The detergency was evaluated by the surface reflectance and chemiluminescence reaction (bloodstain detection by luminol test and urine-stain and feces-stain detection by UV blacklight test) before and after washing. The surface reflectance results did not show any difference in detergency for both courses, whereas the chemiluminescence reaction did. The detergency of the pet care course compared to the standard course was 101% according to the surface reflectance and 120% according to the chemiluminescence reaction. Therefore, residual stains not detected by surface reflectance can be evaluated through chemiluminescence reaction, and it was confirmed that pet stains can be managed more hygienically by washing for a long time at a high temperature.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of menswear designers and the process of becoming a menswear designer expert through qualitative evaluation and statistical analysis. This study used ten menswear designers with more than fifteen years of experience. After going through the University P IRB approval process, a semi-structured questionnaire was prepared and individual in-depth face-to-face or video interviews were conducted from March 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021. From this qualitative study examining the characteristics of menswear designer job experience, four key themes were found: the competence required for the professionalization process of menswear designers; the creative sensibility of menswear designers; the uniqueness of menswear designers' work; basic education required for menswear designers. In order to find additional meaningful implications using the visual analysis technique, we examined the primary vocabulary using the word cloud technique and examined the relationship between the vocabulary using the network graph. In the follow-up study, we expect to develop a material-oriented education program for new menswear designers and to resolve the limitations of the study, targeting a small number of experienced menswear designers.

This study aimed to ex situ colorize laccase-entrapped bacterial cellulose (BC) with natural phenolic dyes, namely,madder, turmeric, and cochineal, and to determine the effect of laccase entrapment on the dyeability of BC using color strength (K/S) analysis. Results showed that laccase entrapment improved the dyeability of BC and that pre-entrapment was the most effective method, compared with meta-entrapment and post-entrapment methods. In addition, surface characterizations confirmed the successful entrapment of laccase inside the BC nanostructure and retention of the cellulosic and crystalline structures of BC. The washing durability test confirmed that the K/S value of BC had improved after laccase entrapment. Furthermore, laccase-entrapped BC colorized with cochineal dye had the highest washing durability due to the high molecular weight of cochineal dyerelative to the other dyes. This study suggests a novel method for enhancing the dyeability and washing durability of BC colorized ex situ with natural phenolic dyes by laccase entrapment.

This study proposes a simple drape measurement method for the 3D virtualization of garments. The proposed method uses angles or disks of different diameters to evaluate the drape properties easily. We divided 710 fabrics into ten groups based on the drape coefficient, of which 49.6% had drape coefficients of 30 or less. The drape properties were measured to classify the groups into smaller clusters using the angle formed when the center of the fabric was fixed. Accordingly, three clusters were formed for 60° and 100° angles. A method was devised using ten disks of different diameters to classify the remaining two clusters, except the cluster containing only the D10 group (D1-D5 and D5-D9). Three criteria-grade match, a sum of deviation, and standardization of deviation-were used for the classifications. The discriminative ability between groups was high for D1-D5 with disks with 24.0 and 25.5 cm diameters. Furthermore, a disk with a diameter of 16.5 cm was effective for D5-D9. The three-dimensional drape shapes were unique for the ten groups, which can be utilized as fundamental data for 3D virtualization.

This study analyzed the characteristics of generation Z leading the trend of the fashion industry through the creative activity of Virgil Abloh. A literature review and case study were conducted together with detailing the research methodology. As a result of research, generation Z is conceptualized as a “digital native” who grows in digital technology environment with excellent visual sense. They are “SNS creators” who have influence on Social Networking Services (SNS). They are also characterized as “social activists” who reject social conventions and prejudices. They are a “leading creators” who seek to differentiate with creativity. The characteristics of generation Z in the creative activities of Virgil Abloh have a feature of digital native in that they seek visual originality. In terms of communicating with generation Z through SNS and influencer marketing, it has the characteristics of SNS creators. It expresses social activists in providing consumers with diversity, and social perceptions of differentiation. In terms of providing content that encourages consumers to express their personality, it has a feature of leading creators. It is meaningful in that it contributes to the understanding of the market change and marketing strategy according to the consumer development and the activity of the fashion designer.

The Gwan ceremony (冠禮) is a coming-of-age ceremony that takes place through traditional Gwan (冠: the hat) and clothes in the traditional era. The rite is performed by wearing hats and clothes three consecutive times (三加禮). It was an important rite which meant that underage children were formally recognized as members of society. This study examined costumes of people who participated in various coming-of-age ceremony rites in the Ming dynasty imperial court of China. For the research data, this study mainly used authentic chronicles (正史), codes of law and books on Ming dynasty rituals. This study examined the costumes used in the coming-of-age ceremony for the emperor, Prince Imperial, Emperor's eldest grandson, and emperor's sons. The results of this study were divided into an analysis of the document structure, institutional changes by time, characteristics of costumes, and characteristics of the rite. Of particular note in their ceremony, the emperor is presupposed to be a 'human already full-equipped with virtue', which means that the costume is worn only once. It is a case in which the emperor's absolute identity is revealed through the rite and costume.

This survey provides research into developing knee braces to protect the knee against damage, reduce knee pain, and strengthen the knee. A total of 235 surveys were conducted from December 2019 to January 2020. The subjects were adults in their 20s and over who lived in the Seoul metropolitan area and had experience of using knee braces. In terms of age differences, subjects over 60 years of age purchased knee braces mostly to secure a reduction of pain (ROP), whereas subjects in their 20s and 30s purchased knee braces for physical shock protection (PSP). Subjects in their 40s and 50s purchased knee braces for improvement of muscle movement (IMM). There was no significant difference in shape, material, and locking method based on the reason for wearing the knee brace. These results show that it is conceivable and maybe preferable to produce different knee braces―with a variety of shapes, materials, and locking materials―according to the reason behind wearing a knee brace. Knee braces are worn currently without any differentiation despite the findings of this study. In particular, we argue the need for functional and differentiated development of knee braces specifically for PSP, ROP, and IMM.

Today, false news is increasing in volume, and fashion news often circulates uncritically. Therefore, an evaluation framework is needed to determine whether fashion news is accurate or good. In journalism, the judgment of good news is made through the criterion of news value factors. These factors are the criteria for assessing the likelihood of an event being reported in the news. Through the study of news value by various journalistic scholars, this study selected nine news value factors applicable to the value measurement of fashion news as the framework of analysis. Based on this, after analyzing the actual news on online fashion media, new characteristics and content were reconstructed for fashion news. As a result of the study, it was finally selected that the crucial factors were: expertise, social importance, timelessness, conflict, and negativity for measuring the value of fashion news. To assess the news value of fashion accurately, this study found that reconceptualized news values are needed, which are different from the news values of general journalism. The study is meaningful in that it explores elements and content for the development of a theoretical framework for the qualitative evaluation of fashion news.

In this study, the effect of wearing functional compression pants is verified using a lower-limb wearable robot through a bio-signal analysis and subjective fit evaluation. First, the compression area to be applied to the functional compression pants is derived using the quad method for nine men in their 20s. Subsequently, functional compression pants are prepared, and changes in Electroencephalogram (EEG) and Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals when wearing the functional compression and normal regular pants inside a wearable robot are measured. The EEG and ECG signals are measured with eyes closed and open. Results indicate that the Relative alpha (RA) and Relative gamma wave (RG) of the EEG signal differ significantly, resulting in increased stability and reduced anxiety and stress when wearing the functional compression pants. Furthermore, the ECG analysis results indicate statistically significant differences in the Low frequency (LF)/High frequency (HF) index, which reflect the overall balance of the autonomic nervous system and can be interpreted as feeling comfortable and balanced when wearing the functional compression pants. Moreover, subjective sense is discovered to be effective in assessing wear fit, ease of movement, skin friction, and wear comfort when wearing the functional compression pants.

This study aims to examine the expressive characteristics and meanings of modern in contemporary fashion, especially focusing on Vogue and The New York Times. First, modern signified originality born out of borderless fusion and compromise. It was also expressed to signify diversity and tolerance not bounded by conventions, TPO, areas, ethnic groups, seasons, or gender. Second, modern meant functionality encompassing the comfort of body and mind. It was used to refer to convenient mobility and activity fit for the lifestyle of busy modern people. Third, lightness and naturalness were used as new meanings of beauty in modern fashion. In the fashion of the twenty-first century, the principal meaning of modern was lightness, which was sought after in everything including materials, modes of wearing, and ways of thinking. Finally, modern fashion was expressed as a democratic tool for social reform and used in the meaning of enlightenment to benefit society as well as oneself. The results of this study indicate that constant changes in trends, lifestyles, and psychology of contemporary society have the potential to give new meaning to the concept and the use of the term modern.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of fabric movement on wrinkle recovery in a clothing care system and to propose an algorithm to improve wrinkle removal performance by adjusting fabric movements. With an increase in the reciprocating speed of the movement system, the number and amplitude of curves on the fabric also increased. This allowed the fabric to be applied to a larger tension, resulting in better wrinkle removal performance at higher speeds. However, even at high reciprocating speeds, wrinkles could not be removed effectively because of nodes at a few specific locations. Based on the results of fabric movement and wrinkle recovery, a complex movement algorithm was proposed with a mixture of various reciprocation speeds. It showed a 41%p (24%→65%) improvement of wrinkle recovery when compared with the conventional algorithm that showed simple fabric movement at 180 rpm. This was because the positions of nodes and antinodes changed continuously and the force by the reciprocating motion could be applied evenly to the fabric.

Art strategies have been addressing the problem of volume growth caused by changes in the distribution environment of luxury brands. Art is a universal language that transcends borders and communicates across cultures, therefore, artification acts as a strategy for the globalization of luxury brands. This study aims to study how contemporary luxury brands communicate their artifacts strategically through branded products via artification. As a research method, a literature review and case studies were combined. The cases of artification range from the 2000s to the present, and the top 100 brands in the luxury category of Millward Brown were selected. Drawing on the characteristics of artification defined in this study we analyzed the cases of articulation of luxury brands. As a result, first, appropriation of art in the product frame is carried out by borrowing ideas from renowned works or artists. Second, as an experimental attempt, it is effective to associate the international reputation of an artist with a product through a reinterpretation of the product. Third, as an artistic creation for the brand narrative, luxury products are sublimated into artwork and idealized.

The Generation Z (Gen-Z) consumer has a unique beauty-consuming behavior that is distinct from the previous generations. This study aims to identify the meaning of makeup rituals based on the theoretical framework of the ritual concept. In-depth interviews were conducted with fifteen females in their mid-teens to early 20s. The results showed that Gen-Z has different types of makeup ritual scripts for both ordinary days and special days, which are constantly being re-written and revised based on the experience accumulated. In addition, there are various types of ritual artifacts that play an important role in Gen-Z's makeup ritual, and that they provide psychological comfort and satisfaction. The importance of DIY (Do It Yourself), collecting, and independent brands is emphasized. The role of Gen-Z in the makeup ritual was expanding from a creator for her own ritual to a collaborator for peers' rituals, and sometimes the expansion goes beyond the direct relationships to virtual ones through SNS (Social Network Service). The Gen-Z cohort is found to be a member of beauty knowledge network through which they learn, share, and create the know-how and shopping skills.
